Cross Country: Chancellor Invite

FREDERICKSBURG — Millbrook sophomore Tyler Cox-Philyaw finished as the runner-up at the Chancellor Invitational at Loriella Park on Saturday.

Cox-Philyaw finished with a time of 16 minutes, 55 seconds, leading the Pioneers cross country team to second place out of 23 boys’ teams.

Max Bader (13th, 17:39), Nathan Burgreen (20th, 17:50), Israel Lockhart (31st, 18:09) and Cal Lockley (49th, 18:38) rounded out the Pioneers’ top five.

Millbrook took second with 112 points, finishing 38 points behind first-place Good Counsel.

Sherando (170 points) showed its depth by placing four runners just 20 seconds apart in a fifth-place effort. Ryan Hindle (24th, 17:59), Justin Hammer (28th, 18:04), Daniel Snapp (34th, 18:14), Thomas Shea (37th, 18:19) and Brendan Dougherty (52nd, 18:40) completed the Warriors’ scoring five.

James Wood’s Luke Farinholt placed third overall (17:03), leading the Colonels in 10th place (297 points), and Handley, led by Aaron Arslan (23rd, 17:58), followed in 14th place.

Millbrook’s girls’ team finished third overall (with 132 points) out of 22 teams. Colonial Forge took first place with 99 points followed by Stafford (103).

Nadia Dahimene (9th, 21:18), Rylee Learn (10th, 21:18), Hannah Croyle (15th, 21:40), Sophia Lee (29th, 22:19) and Maddie Treiber (76th, 23:47) completed the Pioneers’ top five.

James Wood finished fifth overall with 158 points. Freshman Sophia Dorsey — one of four freshmen in the Colonels’ top five — took third in 20:58. Junior Brittany Arnold (22nd, 22:07), freshman Autumn Hottle (27th, 22:18), freshman Zoe Schopick (44th, 22:49) and freshman Jessie Clatterbuck (68th, 23:33) rounded out the Colonels’ team scoring.

Sherando, led by Katie Rogers (31st, 22:21), came in eighth, and Handley, led by Abby Swartz (42nd, 22:46), followed in 10th.
