Cross Country - Glory Days Invitational

MANASSAS — Millbrook senior Alec Schrank won the seeded race with a time of 16 minutes, four seconds at the Glory Days Invitational at Bull Run Regional Park on Saturday.

Schrank edged Richard Montgomery’s Rohann Asfaw, who posted the same time, at the finish line.

Schrank and Asfaw battled throughout the final mile of the race, but Schrank took the lead with about 100 meters to go. Schrank held off Asfaw, who dived at the finish line.

Schrank led the Pioneers to 19th place (with 477 points) in the meet that included 37 teams and 254 runners. Kevin Kleinegger (69th, 17:32), John Pullen (112th, 17:58), Brad Hambrick (118th, 18:02) and Gabriel Espinoza (181st, 18:37) completed the Pioneers’ top five.

James Wood, led by Max Lindquist (47th, 17:18) placed 26th with 616 points. Kevin Konyar (76th, 17:35), Bryce Ratlief (154th, 18:17), Ethan Pierce (160th, 18:20) and Joshua Arce (184th, 18:40) rounded out James Wood’s team scoring.

Dulaney won the boys’ team title with 186 points, edging runner-up Gonzaga by five. Our Lady of Good Counsel (201) took third.

In the girls’ race, Millbrook placed four runners within a 12-second span to take 14th (with 422 points) out of 29 teams. Kaycee Cox-Philyaw (67th, 20:51), Emily Muldowney (69th, 20:53), Maddie Lloyd (76th, 21:03), Mellany Groll (77th, 21:03) and Sophie Edlich (140th, 22:08) completed the Pioneers’ scoring five.

James Wood, led by Kenzie Konyar (24th, 19:56), finished 22nd with 493 points. Autumn Hottle (90th, 21:13), Haley Witt (106th, 21:27), Sophia Dorsey (138th, 22:04) and Lydia Sunderlin (146th, 22:22) completed the Colonels’ top five.

Lake Braddock won the girls’ team title with 70 points. George C. Marshall, led by overall winner Heather Holt (18:03), took second (141 points), and Northern Calvert (159) followed in third.
