Girls' golf: Locals fail to advance

GAINESVILLE — Three area golfers failed to advance for the 36 entrants at the Zone 4B qualifier on Tuesday at the Stonewall Golf Club.

James Wood's Lauren Van Horn shot 92 to tie for 19th as she led the local contingent in the event. Millbrook's Molly Deegan tied for 24th with a 100 and Handley's Sofia Bogaty tied for 27th at 102.

Potomac Falls' Josephina Knitsky shot a 2-under 70 to win by four strokes over Brentsville's Addison Butler. The top 15 percent of the players (six) advanced to the State Open.
