Pioneers rally, sweep to win against Colonels

WINCHESTER — Millbrook rallied from an 11-2 deficit in the opening set and went on to hand James Wood its first Class 4 Northwestern District volleyball loss of the season with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-9 victory on Thursday.

Abigail Koeller had nine kills in the first set to fuel the rally for the Pioneers (12-2, 5-1 district). James Wood dropped to 10-3, 4-1.

Leaders — Millbrook (17 aces): Koeller 16 kills, six digs; Tori Johnson 14 kills, 9 digs (4 aces in a 10-0 run that gave Millbrook a 22-15 lead in the second set); Jordan Reid 19 assists, 4 aces; Skylar Johnson 13 assists; James Wood: Jessica Putnam 6 kills; Taylor Robinson 4 kills; Grace Frigaard 4 kills; Ryenne Terenzi 3 aces; Yeakley Pullen 9 digs; Hanna Plasters 8 assists; Kaitlyn Poppo 8 digs.
