Honorable Mention Girls' Athletes of the Year

Megan Hillyard

Wood — Senior

VOLLEYBALL: Hillyard kept the Colonels’ offense flowing with her leadership and overall ability. The setter led the area with 728 assists and also had 38 aces, 32 kills and 14 blocks. Hillyard, who helped lead the Colonels to the Conference 21 West tournament title, was a unanimous first team All-Conference 21 West selection, a first team All-4A West Region selection and a second team Group 4A all-state selection. Hillyard will compete for NCAA Division III Shenandoah University next year.

TENNIS: Hillyard advanced to the Conference 21 West semifinals in both singles and doubles, winning seven matches for the season in singles and posting an 8-7 doubles record.

Kenzie Konyar

Wood — Freshman

CROSS COUNTRY: Konyar was The Winchester Star Girls’ Cross Country Runner of the Year. She won the Conference 21 West championship (19 minutes, 46 seconds) at Kernstown Battlefield and qualified for the state meet by finishing 17th (20:29) at the 4A West Regional at Kernstown. At the Group 4A state meet at Great Meadow in The Plains, Konyar earned all-state honors by finishing 10th with a personal record time of 19:06 (also the fastest time on the state course by any area state-qualifier).

OUTDOOR TRACK: Konyar posted the area’s fastest time in the 3,200 (11:29.59) and No. 2 mark in the 1,600 (5:28.05). 4A state meet: 8th in the 3,200 (all-state). Conference 21 West meet: 2nd in 1,600 and 3rd in 3,200.
