GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD - Colonels win Gary Bugg Co-ed Classic

HARRISONBURG — James Wood opened its season with a dominating performance to win the eight-team Gary Bugg Co-ed Classic at Harrisonburg High School on Tuesday.

Colonels coach Matt Stegmaier said the final team scoring might be adjusted slightly, but the results that were released had James Wood scoring 119 points, with Wilson Memorial taking second with 75.

The Colonels were led by Rene Rosso (first in the high jump, 5-1, and triple jump, 34-5, second in the long jump, 16-1), Hannah Cavanagh (first in the discus, 107-3.5, and shot put 35-4.75), Emma Hammond (second in the triple jump, 33-11, tied for second in the high jump, 4-8), the 4x800 relay (first in 10:58), the 4x100 relay (first in 53.60), the 4x200 relay (first in 1:58.40) and the 4x400 relay (4:43.80).

Only field events and relays were held at the meet. Names of relay participants were not provided.
