Girls' Regional Track Meet

LYNCHBURG — Sherando senior Davina Lane repeated as the 4A West Region track and field champion in the 100-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles and 200 to highlight area girls’ performances on Thursday at Liberty University.

Lane broke her own school record in the 200 with a time of 25.33 seconds. She won the 100 hurdles in 14.64 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 45.54. Lane also took third in the long jump with a school-record mark of 17 feet, 6 inches.

Lane scored 36 of the 38 points for Sherando, whose tie for sixth-place was the highest finish among local schools. E.C. Glass won with 107 points, and Liberty Christian Academy was second with 63. James Wood took eighth (37 points), Handley tied for 12th (20 points) and Millbrook was 21st (nine) out of 25 scoring teams.

 

Also for the Warriors, Donzailya Berg took eighth in the high jump (5-0) and their 4x100 team of Ania Summers, Berg, AnnMarie Kelly and Kaitlyn Roberts placed eighth (51.89).

James Wood was led by Rene Rosso (second in the 100 hurdles, 15.21, second in the 300 hurdles, 46.92, third in the high jump, 5-3, fourth in the long jump, 17-3.5) and Hannah Cavanagh (fourth in the shot put, 35-7, fourth in the discus, 111-11).

Handley was led by Casey Nelson (second in the shot put, 37-10, second in the discus, 115-4) and Kristin Blake (fifth in the 800, 2:25.30).

Millbrook was led by its 4x800 team of Kaycee Cox-Philyaw, Mellany Groll, Maddie Lloyd and Emily Muldowney (third in 10:07.32) and Groll (sixth in the 800, 2:25.66).

The top six teams and top six relays on Thursday — as well as those with state qualifying marks — advance to the Group 4A state meet on June 2 and 3 at Harrisonburg High School.
