Wood's Warnagiris earns all-state honor

RICHMOND — James Wood sophomore Kimberly Warnagiris was the only person to earn all-state honors at Friday's Class 4 state meet at SwimRVA.

Warnagiris recorded a time of 2 minutes, 11.64 seconds to place eighth in the girls' 200-yard individual medley. Warnagiris had a time of 2:10.44 in the preliminaries to beat her seed time by 1.88 seconds. Warnagiris also won the consolation heat of the 100 butterfly to place ninth in 57.76, 1.82 seconds faster than her preliminary time.

Monacan won the girls' meet which featured 30 scoring teams with 282.5 points. Blacksburg was second with 215.5 points.

Warnagiris helped James Wood place 21st with 23 points, 15 behind 16th-place Sherando (38). Handley was 24th with 11.5 points and Millbrook was 30th with one point.

James Wood junior Jackson Sitton was the only person to score points in the boys' meet. He won the consolation heat of the 200-yard freestyle to place ninth (1:46.01, 3.04 seconds faster than his prelim time) and placed 14th in the 500 freestyle (4:57.52) after recording a 4:56.08 in the prelims. Sitton scored 12 points to give James Wood a 21st-place finish. Blacksburg won with 229 points and Lafayette was second with 217.
