Swimming: Wood boys win Holiday Hundreds Invitational

MANASSAS — James Wood's eight-person boys' team won the Holiday Hundreds Invitational on Friday at the Prince William County Schools Aquatics Center.

The Colonels scored 227 points to win by 27 points over runner-up Kettle Run (200), in the 10-team meet made up entirely of Northwestern District schools. Millbrook was fifth with 124 points, Handley took eighth with 47 and Sherando was last with seven.

In the girls' meet, Kettle Run won with 330.5 points. Fauquier was second (142.5), Sherando took third (125), James Wood placed fifth (117), Handley was eighth (64) and Millbrook took ninth (44).

James Wood boys' top performers: Joe Warnagiris (first in 100-yard breaststroke, 1:00.34, second in 100 back, 51.44); 200 medley relay (Eddie Grimes, Warnagiris, Alex Hua, Ethan Britton), first in 1:43.95; 200 free relay (Grimes, Hua, Britton, Warnagiris), first in 1:33.21; Hua (third in 100 breast, 1:06.54, fourth in 100 free, 52.60); Grimes (fifth in 100 back, 58.99, sixth in 100 fly, 58.62); Britton (fifth in 100 breast, 1:09.28).

Millbrook boys' top performers: Zack Carter (second in 100 fly, 56.14, fifth in 100 free, 52.66); 200 medley relay (Xavier LaFalce, Nathan Truong, Zack Carter, Franco Menay), sixth in 1:58.19; 200 free relay (LaFalce, Truong, Alejandro Landers, Carter), sixth in 1:42.38.

Sherando girls' top performers: Madelynn Twigg (first in 100 back, 1:01.94, third in 100 free, 55.54); 200 medley relay (Twigg, Addy Wallin, Reese Luong, Ellie Luong), second in 2:02.89; 200 free relay (Reese Luong, Wallin, Ellie Luong, Twigg), third in 1:52.52.

James Wood girls' top performers: 200 free relay (Annie Hua, Samantha Krueger, Lauren Thompson, Kallie Gyurisin), tied for fourth in 1:53.46; 200 medley relay (Krueger, Gyurisin, Thompson, Hua), sixth in 2:06.57; Thompson (sixth in 100 back, 1:09.11); Gyurisin (sixth in 100 breast), 1:16.84).
