VHSL moves Class 4 wrestling to Portsmouth

CHARLOTTESVILLE — The Virginia High School League released the minutes from last week’s executive committee meeting on Monday, and the Class 3 and 4 wrestling state championships have been moved to Churchland High School in Portsmouth.

The VHSL Class 1, 2, 3 and 4 championships had been contested at the Salem Civic Center following the expansion from three to six classes in the 2013-14 school year.

But with four regions in each class instead of two starting this year, state tournament brackets will be larger, so the VHSL is using more locations to hold six state tournaments. Classes 1 and 2 will remain at the Salem Civic Center. Class 5 will be at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake and Class 6 will be at Kellam High School in Virginia Beach.
