James Wood's big finish nets wrestling win over Sherando

STEPHENS CITY — James Wood won five of the final seven matches as the Colonels pulled out a 38-25 Northwestern District wrestling victory over Sherando on Wednesday.

The Warriors led the match, which started at 220 pounds, 16-15 after Timmy Dieter secured a pin at 132 pounds.

The Colonels rebounded, getting major decisions from Joey Vitola (10-1 at 138) and Sam Adkins (11-2 at 145) and a win from Aaron Curd (152) to get back into the lead. Tucker Anderson’s pin at 160 got Sherando back withing 26-22, but Paul Ebersole (170) and Luke Roy (195) closed with falls for the Colonels.

Brayden Patterson (3-0 decision at 285), Josh Arce (pin at 120) and Josiah Geaslen (forfeit at 106) also had victories for James Wood.

Zack Kales (10-1 major decision at 220), Zane Hawkins (4-1 decision at 113), Heath Rudolph (6-1 decision at 126) and Zach McCarty (2-1 decision at 182) also had wins for the Warriors.
