SWIMMING - Pioneers win dual against Colonels

WINCHESTER — Millbrook swept James Wood in a Northwestern District dual swim meet at the War Memorial Building at Jim Barnett Park on Saturday.

The Pioneer boys won 86-70 and the Millbrook girls won 90-79.

In the girls’ meet, Pioneers sophomore Lindsay Fairbanks won the 200-meter freestyle (2:21.68) and the 100 backstroke (1:13.07) and sophomore Abbey Esslinger won both the 200 individual medley (2:43.40) and 100 breaststroke (1:28.46).

Fairbanks and Esslinger teamed with Taylor Linder and Sarah Jeffries to win the 200 medley relay (2:20.64) and Esslinger, Jeffries, Linder and Abby McClellan teamed to win the 200 free relay (2:07.81).

In the boys’ meet, Millbrook senior Alex Morrow won both the 200 I.M. (2:34.40) and the 100 back (1:10.69) and senior teammate Hunter Edwards won the 200 free (2:33.87) and 100 free (1:09.43).

Morrow and Edwards teamed with Mark Paxton and Edwin Ben to win the 400 free relay (4:32.18) and Morrow and Paxton teamed with Zach Hicks and Patrick Northrup to win the 200 medley relay (2:12.21).

James Wood senior Conor Babington won the 100 fly (1:01.79, state-qualifying time) and 100 breast (1:15.08) and he teamed with Ben Marsch, Jared Arkfeld and Dean Ludwig to win the 200 free relay (1:59.96).
