Girls' soccer: James Wood 3, Clarke County 0

WINCHESTER — James Wood senior All-State midfielder McKenna Newcome had an assist in her first extended action of the season to help the Colonels to a win over Clarke County that completed a season sweep.

Newcome — who was hospitalized for three weeks in February with a rare kidney disease — played about 20 minutes and participated five to seven minutes each time she took the field.

The Colonels — who led 1-0 at the half — are 3-0, and the Eagles are 1-3.
